StarScope Global (https://starscope.live) is operated by Shiftline AI Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

1. Data We Collect

Account data

When you create an account via Manus OAuth, we receive your name and email address. We store these to identify your account and deliver services.

Usage data

We collect standard server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security, debugging, and aggregate analytics. It is not sold or shared with advertisers.

Payment data

Subscription and donation payments are processed by Stripe. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status. We never store card numbers, CVV codes, or full payment details. Stripe's privacy policy applies to payment processing: stripe.com/gb/privacy.

Community content

Messages you post in the community chat are stored in our database and visible to other users. Do not post personal information, passwords, or sensitive data in community channels.

Notification preferences

If you configure notification preferences (aurora threshold, keyword alerts, comet alerts), these are stored against your account to deliver the service.

Location data

If you grant browser location permission, your latitude and longitude are used to calculate real twilight times and hemisphere-specific sky data. This data is processed in your browser and on our server for the purpose of delivering the Tonight's Sky feature. It is not stored permanently or shared with third parties.

2. How We Use Your Data

To provide and improve the StarScope Global service
To process subscription payments and donations via Stripe
To send transactional emails (account notifications, payment receipts) via Resend
To deliver custom notifications you have configured (aurora alerts, keyword alerts, comet alerts)
To moderate community content and enforce our Community Guidelines
To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and security incidents
To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising profiling. We do not share your data with third parties except as described in Section 4.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (UK GDPR)

Contract: Processing necessary to deliver the service you signed up for (account management, subscriptions, notifications)
Legitimate interests: Security monitoring, fraud prevention, aggregate analytics, service improvement
Legal obligation: Compliance with UK law, tax records, fraud reporting
Consent: Location data for twilight calculations (you can revoke this in your browser at any time)

4. Third Parties

Stripe — payment processing. Data processed under Stripe's privacy policy. Stripe is PCI DSS Level 1 certified.

Resend — transactional email delivery. Email addresses are transmitted to Resend solely to deliver emails you have requested.

Amazon Associates — affiliate programme. When you click a telescope link on our Telescopes page, Amazon may set a cookie to track referrals. We earn a commission if you purchase. Amazon's privacy policy applies: amazon.co.uk privacy notice.

NASA, ESA, NOAA, arXiv, MPC, GCN — public data APIs. No personal data is shared with these services.

Manus — platform infrastructure (hosting, authentication). StarScope Global is built on the Manus platform operated by Monica Technology Ltd. Manus processes infrastructure-level data under their own privacy policy.

5. Data Retention

Account data: retained while your account is active and for 90 days after deletion
Community messages: retained indefinitely unless you delete them or request removal
Payment records: retained for 7 years to comply with UK tax law
Server logs: retained for 30 days then automatically deleted
Notification preferences: deleted when you delete your account

6. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Rectification — correct inaccurate data
Erasure — request deletion of your data (subject to legal retention obligations)
Restriction — ask us to stop processing your data in certain circumstances
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests
Withdraw consent — revoke location permission in your browser at any time

To exercise any right, email data@starscope.live. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).

7. Cookies

We use a single session cookie to keep you logged in. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies. Amazon may set an affiliate tracking cookie when you click a telescope link — this is governed by Amazon's cookie policy.

8. Children

StarScope Global is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us at data@starscope.live and we will delete it promptly.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified by email to registered users and by updating the effective date above. Continued use of the service after notification constitutes acceptance.
