These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of StarScope Global at https://starscope.live, operated by Shiftline AI Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using the service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

StarScope Global is a product of Shiftline AI Ltd. For information about Shiftline AI Ltd's broader services, visit shiftline.ai.

1. The Service

StarScope Global is an astronomy platform providing real-time feeds, sky data, community chat, telescope recommendations, and related tools for amateur astronomers, hobbyists, and enthusiasts. The service is provided on a free and paid subscription basis.

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time with reasonable notice. We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation.

2. Accounts

You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials.
You must provide accurate information when creating your account.
One account per person. You may not share accounts or create accounts on behalf of others without their consent.
We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

3. Subscriptions and Payments

Pro subscription: The Pro plan is available at £4.99/month or £39.99/year, billed in advance. Prices are in GBP and include VAT where applicable.

Billing: Payments are processed by Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring basis until you cancel.

Cancellation: You may cancel at any time via the billing portal accessible from your account. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. No partial refunds are issued for unused time.

Refunds: We offer a 7-day refund on first-time subscriptions if you contact us at hello@starscope.live within 7 days of your first charge. Subsequent billing periods are non-refundable.

Donations: One-time donations are voluntary and non-refundable. They do not grant Pro access or any other benefit beyond supporting the platform.

Price changes: We will give 30 days' notice of any price increase by email. Continued use after the notice period constitutes acceptance of the new price.

Failed payments: If a payment fails, we will retry and notify you by email. Access may be suspended after repeated failures.

4. Community Rules

The community chat is a public space for astronomy discussion. By posting, you agree not to:

Post content that is abusive, threatening, harassing, hateful, or discriminatory
Post spam, unsolicited promotions, or off-topic commercial content
Share links to malware, phishing sites, or illegal content
Impersonate other users, public figures, or Shiftline AI Ltd staff
Post personal information about other people without their consent
Post content that infringes copyright or other intellectual property rights
Attempt to circumvent moderation systems

We use automated AI moderation to detect violations. Flagged content is reviewed and may be removed without notice. Repeated violations will result in account suspension or permanent ban. We are not liable for user-generated content but will act on valid reports.

5. Intellectual Property

The StarScope Global platform, design, code, and original content are owned by Shiftline AI Ltd and protected by copyright. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute platform content without written permission.

Astronomical data sourced from NASA, ESA, NOAA, arXiv, the Minor Planet Center, and GCN is subject to those organisations' respective terms and licences. We do not claim ownership of third-party data.

Content you post in the community remains yours. By posting, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and distribute that content within the platform.

6. Affiliate Links

The Telescopes page contains affiliate links to Amazon UK. We earn a commission if you purchase through these links at no additional cost to you. Affiliate links are editorially selected and do not influence our recommendations. We are a participant in the Amazon Associates Programme.

7. Data and Accuracy

Astronomical data (Kp index, NEO close approaches, comet ephemerides, arXiv preprints, GCN circulars) is sourced from public APIs and provided for informational purposes. We make no warranty as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of this data. Do not rely on it for safety-critical decisions.

Tonight's Sky calculations use the SunCalc library and are approximate. Twilight times, object visibility, and aurora alerts are estimates and may differ from precise astronomical calculations.

8. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or free of viruses.

To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, Shiftline AI Ltd's total liability to you for any claim arising from use of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim, or £50, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.

9. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate your account for violation of these Terms, with or without notice depending on severity. On termination, your right to use the service ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature survive termination (intellectual property, limitation of liability, governing law) remain in effect.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you are a consumer in another jurisdiction, you may also have rights under your local consumer protection laws.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. Material changes will be notified by email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you do not accept the new Terms, you must stop using the service and may cancel your subscription for a pro-rata refund of any prepaid period.
